Mother’s Day in the Mountains

Friday, May 18th, 2007

Mother’s Day this year was spent in the mountains at Lake Morena. We planned on camping there and fishing, then trucking the quads and bikes over to 4 Corners (Corral Canyon OHV). aj-lake-morena-on-raptor-330.jpg

Seems I might be having some luck planning holidays away from (everyone’s) home. Even Aj had a blast. He gave up on his little elect quad and jumped on mine. As usual. (He turned 2 last month)

I’ve never ridden at Corral Canyon. It’s been closed for several years; since the big San Diego Fire Storm that literally burned almost 1/3 of all of San Diego County. We took a day trip without ATVs a few weeks ago to check it out to see if it would be kid friendly to ride.

We camped and fished. Oh, and drank. But we didn’t get to ride the quads out there. I did, however, get a chance to install my new Handy Throttle: Thumb Throttle Converter. (Converts a thumb throttle to a twist throttle). The install was brilliantly simple. (Read the review I wrote here).

My wife and I will be testing it out over Memorial Weekend. (She prefers twist throttle because she’s used to it)

2007 Yamaha Raptor 700R SE: The Caddy of Sport Quads

I recently bought a 2007 Yamaha Raptor 700R SE. It’s an incredible quad. A friend let me ride his 2006 (stock) out at the dunes of Gordon’s Well in Southern Cal. It only took me about 10 minutes of talking to myself and laughing under my helmet to convince me to get one.

My biggest problem I figured would be convincing my wife, but even that was simple. I planned on getting one some time this summer, but lo and behold, my wonderful wife let me do it before the end of the season.

Because of that I was able to take it out for a few weekends and really put some miles on it. Most of my rides the first 2 weekends were of considerable length; about 10-20 miles each ride, several rides per weekend.

Every time I get on that thing, I get a warm, tingly feeling in my nether regions. I haven’t felt that tingly feeling coming from a combustion engine for years.

I wrote up a pretty good review for it, which was published at ATV Source Magazine.
